It is not without reason that we are the specialist in deep drawing.

Deep drawing at GB Metal & Plastics

Deep drawing is one of the specialities of GB Metal & Plastics. With this technique, we can seamlessly and precisely shape metal into virtually any desired form. We apply this process to materials such as steel, aluminum, copper, titanium, brass, and stainless steel. Aluminum deep drawing and the deep drawing of other metals offer numerous possibilities that cannot be achieved with standard manufacturing methods.

More about GB Metal
Deep drawing

Deep drawing is the seamless shaping of a material. This involves pressing a flat plate (blenk) between a mold and a punch with great force and then the flat plate is shaped into a hollow version of the mold. The mold is the specially made mold of the product you want to manufacture, the stamp has the opposite shape and therefore fits exactly in the mold.

The proces of deep drawing

What is deep drawing?

Deep drawing is a process in which a flat sheet, also known as a blank, is pressed between a die and a punch. Under immense force, the blank is shaped into a hollow version of the die. The die, a custom-made mold of the desired product, and the punch, which has the opposite form, ensure precise and seamless deformation of the material. This technique allows for the creation of complex shapes without weld seams.

Fully automatic deep drawing

The deep drawing process can be carried out partly or even completely robotically as we have a fully automatic deep drawing press. The deep drawing press we use is the Loire 400-250 tons deep drawing press. Using this modern control technology leads to lower costs for you as a customer, shorter setup times, fewer failures, higher accuracy and greater flexibility if you need to switch to other products.

Seamless and custom deep drawing

Deep drawing metal to deform it is done seamlessly and is therefore less sensitive to rust and maintenance. The products (mold and stamp) are made exactly to measure for you in a wide range of different shapes: from round to rectangular shapes and everything in between for different purposes. This gives you virtually unlimited choice in what form you want to have realized.

Aluminum and metal deep drawing

At GB Metal & Plastics, we have extensive experience with aluminum deep drawing as well as deep drawing steel and other metals. Aluminum is an ideal material for this technique due to its excellent formability and low weight. Aluminum deep drawing is suitable for various applications, from automotive parts to housings for electronic devices. We also work with steel, copper, titanium, brass, and stainless steel. Each of these materials offers unique advantages for specific applications.

The seamless finish achieved through deep drawing makes the final product more resistant to corrosion and reduces maintenance requirements, extending the product's lifespan and lowering long-term costs. In some cases, a combination with long-hole drilling may be required to finish the final product.

Benefits of deep drawing

Our fully automated deep drawing press, the Loire 400-250 ton press, offers several advantages. The advanced control technology reduces production costs and setup times. Additionally, it minimizes waste and enhances the accuracy of the products. Thanks to the press's flexibility, we can quickly switch between different productions, making it suitable for both series production and custom force-based applications.

Seamless and custom-made

During the deep drawing process, components such as the die and punch are custom-made to exact specifications. This enables a wide range of shapes, from round to rectangular and everything in between. This precision gives you virtually unlimited options for realizing your desired form. Furthermore, the seamless shaping process results in products that are less prone to rust, increasing their durability and reliability.
